Two friends, one toolbox.
GridBoss is built by two friends bringing very different expertise to the same problem: small field-service operators have been priced out of modern software. Scott spent 17+ years building production infrastructure and AI platforms at Cisco, Boston Dynamics, and Berkshire Grey. Jonathan has spent 10+ years running a septic pumping business out of Sudbury, MA. We started building GridBoss together — one of us in the data center, the other in the truck — to ship the kind of software a 1-truck or 10-truck shop actually wants to use.
Scott Richard
Founder · Engineering
Lancaster, MA
Battle-tested infrastructure leader, now applied to small-business software. Scott has spent his career designing, building, and operating network and compute environments end-to-end — from physical Cisco Nexus and UCS racks through cloud networking, Kubernetes, and CI/CD. Most recently, he's been focused on AI/ML infrastructure and agentic platforms inside FedRAMP- and SOC2-regulated environments at Cisco.
- 17+ years across data-center networking, cloud infrastructure, and platform engineering — from Cisco Nexus rack-and-stack and BOM planning through AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
- Senior DevOps Engineer on the Cisco Cloud Defense Orchestrator (CDO) Platform Team — VPC refactors aligned to FedRAMP and SOC2, self-hosted LangSmith on EKS for AI agent teams, and an agentic compliance automation pipeline for SOC2/FedRAMP evidence.
- Senior Staff DevOps/SRE at Boston Dynamics — GPU-enabled Kubernetes for ML training, GCP cost optimization saving 20% monthly egress and 30% compute, custom Go autoscalers for Buildkite.
- Principal DevOps/SRE at Berkshire Grey — owned end-to-end network and compute buildout for robotic warehouse deployments: BOM, procurement, rack-and-stack, EKS testbeds, on-call playbooks.
- BS Electrical Engineering, UMass Amherst. Cisco DCUFI and CCNA certified, GCP Associate Cloud Engineer.
Jonathan Fairbank
Founding Customer · Field Operations Advisor
Sudbury, MA
Jonathan owns and runs Fairbank Septic Pumping, a local family-owned business serving residential and commercial customers across MetroWest Massachusetts. He's GridBoss's first real customer and the reason the product is grounded in how field work actually happens — not how a product manager thinks it happens.
“I have spent 10 years in the industry pumping and troubleshooting septic systems. I take pride in my work, and want to provide the highest quality customer service possible. My goal is to bring unparalleled professionalism and care to your home or business.”
- Owner and operator of Fairbank Septic in Sudbury, MA — pumping, repairs, video inspection, and Title 5 inspections for residential and commercial customers across MetroWest.
- 10+ years troubleshooting septic systems in the field — knows what the dispatcher screen, the truck app, and the customer-facing receipt actually need to look like at 6am on a Tuesday.
- Family-owned, fully licensed and insured. The kind of operator GridBoss is built for.
- GridBoss's first customer and the operational ground-truth for routing, recurring service intervals, dispatch, and invoicing.
Why we're building GridBoss
The big field-service platforms are great if you're running 100 trucks. If you're running 1, 5, or 10, you end up paying enterprise prices for software that fights you in the cab. Per-technician fees stack up. Payment processors skim 3%+. The mobile app is an afterthought. The phones still ring through to a paper calendar.
We started GridBoss to flip that math. Flat pricing. No per-tech fees. Online payments as low as 1.9%. An AI phone assistant that answers when nobody else is around. Scheduling, dispatch, estimates, invoicing, recurring service — the whole loop, built modern, built fast, and built by someone who knows what the truck looks like at 6am on a Tuesday.
We're a small team. That's on purpose. It's also why we move fast, answer the phone ourselves, and ship features our customers actually ask for.
